In 1904, brothers Gustav and Henry Dreyer purchased adjacent farms on Springfield Ave. in Cranford, New Jersey.  Their acreage grew and shrank over the next fifty years until it ended up the size it is now.  Today the business is called Dreyer Farms not Dreyer's Farm reflecting the two families and two businesses.
Both farms started out as wholesale farms called truck farms.  Gustav and Henry would pick their crops, load it on a truck and drive it to the major produce markets in Elizabeth or Newark.  In 1949, Henry's daughter-in-law, Henrietta, opened our roadside market.  That same building, plus a few additions, houses our business today.
Henrietta would sell the fresh produce her husband Henry and father-in-law grew directly to the public.  Having grown up on a pansy and perennial farm in Springfield, NJ, she started selling beautiful flowers to her customers as well.  Greenhouses were added in the late 1960's for growing annuals, perennials and vegetable plants.   Christmas trees were offered in the early seventies and we entered into the nursery business in 1992.
Today the market is run by Henry and Henrietta's two sons, Henry Jr. and John.  Henry Jr. continues the growing side of the business as the farmer and greenhouse operator.  John has taken over for Henrietta in the market and sells the flowers, plants and produce grown by his brother.  One or both brothers are present at the business everyday and are available for questions and assistance.
